Day 1: Project to Santo Domingo

Travel across this tropical island for non-stop culture and adventure!

Depart your volunteer Project and travel by bus to Santo Domingo for the beginning of your northbound DR Adventure Tour. Your mandatory Tour Orientation Meeting will take place after arrival, and the Colonial Zone Tour will begin right after the meeting. The evening is free for you to explore the capital city of the Dominican Republic, the first City built in the New Wolrd!

Day 2: Santo Domingo

Fun Fun Caves at Rancho Capote

*ISV Optional Activity Package

 

An early departure from Santo Domingo to Hato Mayor gives you a chance to experience the thrill of caving in one of the largest cave systems in the Caribbean. Take a short horse ride and hike through Los Haitises National Park, rappel into huge caverns and finally swim through the underground canyons of this expansive cave system while taking in the sights and sounds of an amazing underground world. Back in Santo Domingo, it's a night out in the cosmopolitan "Zonal Colonial."

Day 3: Santo Domingo to Bahoruco

Travel  to Bahoruca/Folkloric Dance Show

Wake up early and travel to the spectacular Southwest. This is a remote region of the Dominican Republic with undeveloped bays, small villages, and beautiful scenery. In the afternoon, learn about Larimar, the endemic precious stone, only found in the part of the island. Enjoy the rest of the evening at El Quemaito Hotel swimming in the pool or just relaxing and listening to the sounds of nature surrounding this spectacular place. In the afternoon, enjoy some of the most traditional Dominican dances. Our Folkloric Dance Group will perform for you several types of Merengue dances dressed with the traditional costumes.

Day 4: Bahoruco

Zip Lining at Casa Bonita

Today we enjoy the thrill of Zip Lining over the tree canopies and crossing rivers in a beautiful tropical jungle setting with our projessionally trained guides and best quality equipment. After Lunch at El Qumaito hotel, we will go to some of the beaches in the area for a refreshing swim in the Caribbean Sea. On the way you will enjoy some of the most spectacular vies on the entire island. Then, it is back to our hotel for dinner and a relaxing evening listening to the sound of the waves.

Day 5: Bahoruco to jarabacoa

Travel from Bahoruco to Jarabacoa

Say good-bye to our beautiful and tropical Bahoruco and travel to pine-clad Jaraboacoa, the mountain adventure capital of the Dominican Republic! The town of Jarabacoa is situated at 600m (1,800 ft) and is next to the highest peak in the Caribbean, Pico Duarte (3,087 m/9,261 ft). Rest up for an exciting next couple of days in a beautiful mountain hotel next to a river.

Day 6: Jarabacoa

Waterfall Rappelling

*ISV Included Activity

 

Get off to an early start and experience an unforgettable day of waterfall rappelling . This is a unique opportunity to get your adrenaline pumping while experiencing the beauty of a high elevation canyon. Enjoy the afternoon by the hotel pool.

Day 7: Jarabacoa

White Water Rafting

*ISV Optional Activity

On this action packed day, you will start with whitewater rafting in Rancho Jarabacoa on the Yaque del Norte River. On the only whitewater rafting trip in the Caribbean, you will go through technical rapids and beautiful scenery in one of the most remote areas of the Dominican Republic. Later, you can shop or just relax in this refreshing mountain town. In the evening, enjoy swimming at the hotel pool complete with a view to a roaring river, or dance and sing the night away at the Gran Jimenoa Hotel.

Day 8:  Jarabacoa to Las Terrenas

Horse ride to El Limon Waterfall

*ISV Included Activity

On the way to Las Terrenas, you will stop at the beach town of El Limon where Don Franco, a true Dominican cowboy, will have our horses saddles and ready for a ride to the Limon waterfalls. Hike to a secluded swimming hole at the base of a 100ft (30m) waterfall in a beautiful ecological park. Spend a relaxing afternoon enjoying the endless beaches and sunset at Las Terrenas.

Day 9: Las Terrenas

Kayaking in Los Haitises Nationals Park

*ISV Optional Activity Package

 

Begin the day early and get on the bus to Samana. Travel across Samana Bay by boat to the spectacular Los Haitises National Park - a pristine maze of egg-shaped, small islands and mangroves shaped by limestone erosion. Visit spectacular caves where the Taino Indians lived. Kayak through one of the largest red mangrove forests in the Caribbean, floating past spectacular wild scenery!

Day 10: Las Terrenas to Cabarete

Travel to Cabarete

Today travel west along the spectacular North Coast and continue to Laguna Blu, a sapphire-blue limestone lagoon, and take a break at breathtaking Playa Grande to play volleyball and swim. Enjoy lunch on the beach. This evening you will arrive in the water sports hub of the Caribbean, the beach town of Cabarete. Enjoy a free night our at the colorful beachside cafes and venues where locals and tourists mingle.

Day 11: Cabarete

Windsurfing Lessons & Snorkeling

*ISV Included Activity

In the morning, friendly staff with good equipment will help you grasp the basics of windsurfing in the protected bay of Cabarete. In the afternoon, immerse yourself in an aquatic world of tropical fish and other marine life by taking a boat to three beautiful reefs off the coast of Sosua. Jump in and see angelfish, parrotfish, sea stars, and many species of coral. The guide will inform you about the coral conservation projects in the area. Enjoy another colorful night in exciting Cabarete.

Day 12: Cabarete

27 Waterfalls of Damajagua

Experience the thrill of canyoning as we go jumping and sliding down natural water slides at 27 waterfalls. Be immersed in a beautiful jungle setting for this exciting activity. Enjoy another free night to explore the international flavor of this multi-cultural adventure community!

Day 13: Cabarete

Surfing Lessons

Get an early start and head to the beach for 2.5 hours of surfing lessons by local projessionals on one of the best surfing beaches in the Caribbean. Hang loose in the crystal clear water! Spend a final night in this beautiful beach-front town before heading home tomorrow.

Day 14: Cabarete

Homeward Bound

Time to say farewell to the Dominican Republic and tell everyone about your amazing experiences. Bus transfer to the Purto Airport for your group flight back home.

Occasionally our itineraries are updated during the year to incorporate improvements stemming from past participants comments and our own research. The information given in this itinerary may be slightly different to that in the ISV Travel Manual. It’s very important that you print and review a final copy of your Travel Manual a couple of days prior to travel, in case there have been changes that affect your plans. Please note that while we operate successful trips in this region throughout the year, some changes may occur in our itineraries due to inclement weather and common seasonal changes to timetables and transport routes. This can happen with little notice so please be prepared for modifications to the route. The order and timing of included activities in each location may also vary from time to time. Some tours may run consecutively so the order of the destinations will be reversed. If this is the case for your adventure tour you will be notified in advance of your arrival to Dominican Republic.

Please note: Exact dates, itineraries, accommodations and included activities will be given to participants in the ISV Participant Travel Manual approximately 30 days prior to departure. ISV reserves the right to change the ISV tour itinerary, accommodations and activities without notice. Any and all changes are within the discretion of ISV, Inc.
